The flag of Germany is the civil flag, the state flag and the merchant flag of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is a tricolor flag consisting of three horizontal stripes equal to the national colors of Germany: black, red and gold.
The colors black-red-gold and black-white-red have played an important role in the history of Germany, and have several meanings. The colors of the current flag are associated with Republican democracy born after the Second World War, and represent German unity and freedom - not only Germany's freedom, but also the personal freedom of the German people.
